A Whimsy Space lets a family or team share one searchable library while each person keeps their own cloud accounts. Members connect their own Dropbox, OneDrive, or drives, share what they choose, and get role-based access — owner, editor, or viewer — so you collaborate without shared passwords, migrations, or everyone being on the same provider.

    Plate 01·How it works

    Shared in three steps.

    1. Frame 01

      Create a Space, invite people

Start a family or team Space and invite members by email. Everyone joins with their own login — no shared password, no new account to set up.

    2. Frame 02

      Everyone connects their own clouds

Each member links their own Dropbox, OneDrive, or drives and chooses what to bring in. Private accounts stay private; only what's shared appears in the Space.

    3. Frame 03

      Work from one shared library

Search, organize, de-duplicate, and deliver together from one view — with roles deciding who can add, edit, or only look.

    Marginalia

Sharing files with people you trust is still a mess.

The family photos are split across Mum's iCloud, your Google Photos, and a sibling's Dropbox. The studio's project files are in an account three people share one password for. Either everyone's on the same login — a security and privacy mess — or the files are scattered and nobody can find anything. There's never one shared view that still lets each person keep their own storage.

One library. Everyone keeps their own account.

    Plate 02·Side by side

    Shared storage without the compromises.

    vsShared Google Drive

Everyone must be on Google. Whimsy Spaces lets members mix Dropbox, OneDrive, and drives — no one changes provider.

    vsDropbox / OneDrive sharing

Share folders inside one provider, but no cross-member de-duplication and no mixed-cloud library. Whimsy spans every account in one search.

    vsA shared account

One login for everyone is a security and privacy mess. Whimsy gives each person their own login with explicit owner, editor, or viewer access.

    Questions, answered

    What is a Whimsy Space?
A Space is a shared workspace where a family or team can browse, search, organize, and deliver files together — while each person keeps their own Dropbox and accounts. It's shared access, not a shared account.
Can my whole family share storage without sharing passwords?
Yes. Everyone connects their own accounts and chooses what to bring into the Space, so the family sees and searches shared photos and files together without anyone handing over a login.
How do roles and permissions work?
Each Space has explicit roles — owner, editor, and viewer — so you control who can add, change, or only view what's shared. No more ad-hoc link-forwarding or guessing who can see what.
Does everyone need to use the same cloud provider?
No. One person can be on Dropbox, another on OneDrive, another on a NAS or an external drive — the Space brings them together into one shared view regardless of where each member's files live.
Can it find duplicates across everyone's drives?
Yes — and this is something consumer tools can't do. Whimsy de-duplicates across the drives connected to a Space, so the same gallery saved by three different people stops costing three times.
Is it for teams and studios too, not just families?
Yes. Spaces come in family and team flavours — a studio can give associates, editors, and assistants role-based access to project files across everyone's storage, with an audit trail of who did what.
Do other members see all of my files?
No. Members only see what's connected or shared into the Space. Your private accounts and the files you don't add stay yours alone.
Can I share with clients as well as my team?
Spaces are for the people you work with; for clients, you send a branded delivery link with its own password, expiry, and download limits — so collaborators and clients get the right level of access.
Which storage works inside a Space?
Any connection members add: Dropbox, OneDrive, Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, WebDAV, SFTP, FTP, NAS, and local drives via the desktop connector.
