Ontario MPT 2026: Complete Test Window Calendar
Everything you need to know about registering for the MPT, booking your test, what's on it, and what to do on test day. Last updated April 3, 2026.
The Spring 2026 window is open now
Registration is live. The first test date is Monday, April 20, 2026; the last is Saturday, June 6, 2026. Individual test sessions are spread across that whole window — you choose your specific date and time when you book. Results land within 10 days of completing your test.
The single most important thing to do this week: register and book. Popular dates fill first, and waiting until you "feel ready" is how candidates end up taking the test on a date that doesn't suit them.
Registering, in plain English
Registration runs through the official MPT site at mathproficiencytest.ca. You'll need a valid email address, your OCT applicant number if you have one, and personal identification.
The flow is simple — create your MPT account and verify your email, log in and select "Register for Test", choose your preferred test window, and pay the registration fee (check the current fee on the MPT site; fee waivers are available for financial hardship). Once you're registered, "Book Test Session" is a separate step — pick a specific date and time, choose remote or in-person testing, and confirm.
The booking step is where the time-pressure shows up. The popular slots (evenings, weekends) go first. If you have any flexibility, book at the earliest available time that fits your prep timeline.
What the test actually looks like
The MPT runs two hours, computer-based, multiple choice. Math content is roughly 70% of the test; pedagogy is the other 30%. You need 70% in each section independently to pass — a strong score in one section can't carry the other.
The math section covers four strands of the Ontario Grade 3–9 curriculum: Number Sense and Numeration, Measurement and Geometry, Patterning and Algebra, and Data Management and Probability. Questions are multiple choice with four options; some include diagrams, charts, or graphs; many are word problems requiring you to apply concepts rather than recall formulas.
The pedagogy section tests your familiarity with three Ontario documents: Growing Success (assessment, evaluation, reporting), Learning for All (differentiated instruction), and the Ontario Math Curriculum (structure and expectations). Most pedagogy questions are scenario-based — a classroom situation followed by "what would you do" or "what does this illustrate".
Official preparation resources, ranked by usefulness
The official MPT practice test on the MPT website is your single most important resource. It's free after registration, simulates actual test conditions, and includes an answer key with explanations. Take it before you do anything else — the diagnostic value is enormous.

EQAO offers free webinars covering test content, format, registration mechanics, and remote-testing technical requirements, with Q&A from EQAO staff. Worth attending one if you have specific questions; the recordings cover most of what's in this guide.
The three pedagogy documents — Growing Success, Learning for All, and the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum (Grades 1–9) — are all free PDFs from the Ontario Ministry of Education website. Growing Success is the highest-impact read; focus on the achievement charts and the assessment for/as/of learning distinction.

Technical requirements for remote testing
If you're testing remotely, verify your setup at least 24 hours before test day. The minimum specs:

You'll also need 2+ hours of uninterrupted time and a clear desk — no papers, books, devices, or other materials in the room.
Run the EQAO system check 24 hours before your test. It catches the dumb stuff (browser plugin conflicts, microphone permissions, webcam drivers) when you still have time to fix it. Don't wait until the morning of.
Test day
Before the test, complete the system check, review the confirmation email, prepare government-issued photo ID, sleep properly, eat a balanced meal, and arrive (or log in) at least 15 minutes early.
For in-person testing, bring photo ID, your registration confirmation, a clear water bottle (no label), and layers (test rooms run cold). For remote testing, bring photo ID, sit at a clean workspace, have a water bottle in reach, and have a backup internet plan (mobile hotspot) in case your home connection drops.
Things you cannot bring: personal calculators (an on-screen calculator is provided for relevant questions), phones or smart devices, notes or study materials, food (water is fine), and watches with smart features.
Understanding your results
Results post within 10 days of completing the test, accessible via your MPT account dashboard. You'll get an email when they're ready.
What you actually see in the report: pass/fail status, performance by section (math vs. pedagogy), and performance by strand within the math section. You don't see specific scores or individual question results — only pass/fail and the strand-level breakdown.
If you pass, results go directly to the Ontario College of Teachers; you don't need to do anything. If you don't pass, you can retake the test in a future window — there's no limit on attempts. Use the strand-level breakdown to focus your retake prep.

Common questions
Can I change my test date after booking? Yes, but changes generally must be made at least 48 hours before your scheduled time. Check the current rescheduling policy on the MPT site.
What if I miss my test? Contact EQAO immediately. You may be able to reschedule within the same window or register for the next one.
Is there a fee? Yes; check the MPT website for the current amount. Fee waivers are available for candidates with documented financial hardship.
Can I use a calculator? No personal calculators. An on-screen calculator is provided for the questions that need one.
What if my internet drops during a remote test? Contact the proctor immediately via the chat function. Brief interruptions can usually be resumed.
Can I take bathroom breaks? Yes, but the timer keeps running. For remote tests, you must remain visible to the webcam.
What score do I need to pass? The exact passing score isn't publicly disclosed. Focus on thorough preparation rather than chasing a specific number — aim for 70%+ in each section as a working target.
Can I see which questions I got wrong? No. The report shows performance by section and strand only.
